Alice Shu-Yao Sheu is a Taiwanese-American harpsichordist, pianist, and historical organist. She earned a Masters in harpsichord performance with Siebe Henstra at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag while simultaneously studying organ with Reitze Smits at HKU Utrecht Conservatorium.

Ms. Sheu won the Vlaamse International Klavecimbeldag Competition in Mechelen shortly after her arrival in Europe, and was invited to perform a solo program at Museum Vleeshuis in Antwerp on the historical 1747 Dulcken. Her rapidly expanding musical horizon includes performing as a soloist in Bach’s harpsichord concerti for multiple keyboards with Fabio Biozzoni in den Haag, as orchestral continuo player with HKU baroque orchestra, appeared as baroque dancer with the Dolmetsch Historical Dance Society, and performed selections from Monteverdi opera in Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht. As an historical organist she has performed on the historical organs in Úterý, Czech Republic, Amberg and Ganderkesee, Germany.

While based in the Netherlands, Ms. Sheu gave two major performances in her native Taiwan despite the COVID situation. She gave the first organ-harpsichord performances on the island with J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Buxtehude’s La Capricciosa in 2020. Most recently she was invited to perform an all-baroque family concert on the 2015 Schuke organ in Pingtung Performance Arts Center, where she packed the concert hall with 600 people. She is invited to perform again at the concert hall in 2023.

Ms. Sheu is the director of the 2022 Fitzwillam Festival Taiwan, a week-long harpsichord festival involving all the active harpsichordists on the island together with Pieter-Jan Belder from the Netherlands. She will also be teaching the historical organ workshop for the Formosa Virtuoso Organists, teaching the early English organ music and the music of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
